Live Wedding Painting in Maui and Across Hawai'i

I am Ariel Quiroz, a Maui-based live wedding painter creating original oil paintings for weddings in Maui, Oʻahu, Kauaʻi, Hawaiʻi Island, and select destination locations.

A Live Wedding Painting Is the New Wedding Ceremony or Reception Trend.
Whether you're the bride-to-be, the mother-of-the-groom, or an event planner, I would love to hear all about your special day!

Your painting begins on-site during your wedding day and is refined in my Lahaina studio after the celebration. The finished artwork becomes a personal keepsake of the moment, place, and feeling you chose to remember.

Whether you are planning an intimate Maui elopement, a full ceremony at a resort in Wailea, a private estate wedding in Kapalua, or a destination wedding anywhere in Hawaiʻi, I create a live painting experience that feels elegant, personal, and meaningful for you and your guests.

What Is a Live Wedding Painting?

A live wedding painting is a fine art experience where I paint a meaningful scene from your wedding day on canvas while the celebration is happening.

I usually begin by painting the venue, light, landscape, and composition before the main moment begins. Then, during the ceremony, first look, reception, sunset, or first dance, I paint the couple and important details into the scene.

Guests are welcome to watch the painting develop throughout the event. By the end of the celebration, the artwork already holds the atmosphere of the day. After the wedding, I bring the painting back to my studio for final refinement, detail work, and finishing touches.

The result is an original oil painting that feels alive, polished, and deeply connected to your wedding day.

2026-2027 Live Wedding Painting Packages and Pricing

All live wedding painting packages include the on-site painting experience, studio refinement after the wedding, and delivery on Maui. Final pricing depends on canvas size, scene complexity, number of figures, location, and travel needs.

The Process

Planning a wedding can be overwhelming, but I've streamlined my booking process to help you develop or clarify your vision for your painting, select the perfect canvas size for your space, and book your date quickly and without hassle. Whether you're an engaged couple or an event planner, I am happy to answer all your questions and provide you with inspiration for your painting.

My calendar availability is limited, so it's essential to confirm my availability on your date as soon as possible. If I am or was unavailable for your date, I can create a painting of your wedding or reception scene using your professional photographs as references. Don't hesitate to reach out to me to discuss your date and learn more about my availability.

How the Live Wedding Painting Process Works

My process is designed to be clear, calm, and easy for couples and planners.

1. Availability Check

Send your wedding date, venue, and the moment you are considering for the painting. I will confirm availability and recommend the best package for your event.

2. Consultation

We talk through your wedding location, timeline, canvas size, style preferences, and the people or details you would like included.

3. Invoice and Deposit

Once the details are confirmed, I send an invoice and agreement. A 50% deposit secures your wedding date, with the remaining balance due before or on the wedding day.

4. Planner Coordination

I coordinate setup details with your planner or venue team, including arrival time, easel location, lighting, shade, and access.

5. Live Painting on the Wedding Day

I arrive early to set up, study the light, and begin the background. During the event, I paint the main moment and continue refining the composition as the celebration unfolds.

6. Studio Refinement

After the wedding, I bring the painting to my Lahaina studio and refine the details, likenesses, values, and finishing touches.

7. Delivery

Once the painting is complete and dry enough for safe handling, I coordinate delivery or shipping.

Live Wedding Painting Considerations

When considering a live wedding painting for your special day, there are several factors to keep in mind. First, my artistic style mixes realism, which focuses on accurate representation, and impressionism, which captures light and movement, to create lifelike and expressive oil painting portraits. I pay close attention to realistic details. I also work closely with you to hand-select the recognizable people you want in your painting.

7 Creative Ways to Personalize Your Live Wedding Painting

My positive personality makes me approachable and entertaining. I love sharing lighthearted conversations with guests while I paint, which helps them enjoy the experience. This connection often results in genuine smiles that I can capture in my work. I find inspiration in the little things, like a couple's glance or a family member's smile. These moments bring my paintings to life, making them cherished memories. My goal is to make everyone feel comfortable and excited about the creative process.

My live wedding painting investment varies based on:

  • Canvas size

  • Hours of Studio Work

  • Number of people in the painting

Prices start at $1,800, including the on-site painting session, a high-quality canvas, follow-up studio work, and shipping expenses. Each painting captures the love and magic of your wedding day, with details like floral arrangements, decor, and lighting. I aim to create a piece of art that reflects the true essence of you, your partner, and your love story. This is more than just a painting; it is a timeless keepsake.

Best Moments to Paint Live

The best moment to paint live depends on the balance between timing, emotion, composition, and how much time I have to refine the couple. In a typical wedding timeline, the First Look comes first, followed by the Ceremony, the Ceremony Exit or aisle walk, the Sunset Portrait Moment, and finally the First Dance. Each option creates a different kind of live wedding painting, so during your consultation, I help you choose the moment that best reflects your story, your venue, and the feeling you want in the finished artwork.

First Look

A quiet, intimate moment before the ceremony. The First Look is especially valuable because it happens early in the day, giving me an early photo reference of the couple and more time to refine the most delicate and detailed part of the painting: faces, posture, attire, hands, and connection.

This is a beautiful choice for couples who want the painting to feel personal, romantic, and focused on their relationship before the full energy of the celebration begins. A First Look reference can also be creatively combined with another setting, such as painting the couple’s pose in front of the ceremony arch, floral installation, or reception background. Not every wedding includes a First Look, but when it does, it gives us strong creative flexibility.

Ceremony

The ceremony is usually the most meaningful and popular choice for a live wedding painting. This moment can include the couple, floral arch, aisle, wedding party, guests, architecture, and the natural beauty of the venue. For Maui and Hawaiʻi destination weddings, the ceremony often becomes a timeless portrait of both the couple and the place where they were married.

The main consideration is composition. If the painting highlights the full venue, ceremony structure, and guest setting, the couple may appear smaller within the scene. This can be beautiful for couples who want the artwork to capture the whole atmosphere of the wedding, but it is something we discuss when choosing the size, format, and focus of the painting.

Ceremony Exit or Aisle Walk

The Ceremony Exit or aisle walk brings more movement, joy, and guest energy into the composition. Petals, bubbles, sparklers, cheering guests, and natural expressions can create a lively painting that feels bright, celebratory, and full of motion.

This moment often allows the couple to appear larger in the foreground while still showing the ceremony background, which can be a strong balance between portrait and setting. The only challenge is that the moment happens quickly, so the photo reference can be more unpredictable. When it works well, it creates one of the most joyful and dynamic live wedding painting options.

Sunset Portrait Moment

A Sunset Portrait Moment can create one of the most romantic and visually stunning references, especially with Hawaiʻi light, ocean views, golden skies, and dramatic landscapes. This is a beautiful choice for Maui, Oʻahu, Kauaʻi, Big Island, and other destination weddings.

The tradeoff is timing. Sunset portraits usually happen later in the day, which leaves less time to paint the couple live before the end of the event. This option works best when the timeline allows enough space for me to build the setting earlier and refine the couple once the sunset reference is captured. You can see examples of finished work in my wedding painting gallery.

First Dance

The First Dance is a romantic reception scene centered on intimacy, movement, and atmosphere. Warm lighting, floral details, candles, music, guests around the dance floor, and even a wardrobe change can create a painting with a soft, emotional feeling.

Because the First Dance is usually the latest key moment in the wedding timeline, it gives me the least amount of time for detailed portrait work before the end of the event. It can still be a beautiful choice, especially for couples who want the finished painting to reflect the reception experience, but it requires thoughtful planning around timing and expectations.

Why Couples Hire Me as Their Live Wedding Painter

I have been painting professionally for more than 25 years and bring a fine art background to every wedding I paint. My work blends realism, impressionism, and expressive brushwork so the finished painting feels refined, recognizable, and full of life.

Couples hire me because they want more than event entertainment. They want a real painting they can hang in their home, a calm professional presence on the wedding day, and an artist who understands how to capture people, place, light, and emotion in one meaningful composition.

As a Maui-based wedding painter, I also understand the logistics of Hawaiʻi weddings. I know how quickly light changes near sunset, how wind can affect an easel, and how important it is to work smoothly with planners, photographers, florists, and venue teams.
