Guest Portrait Satisfaction Policy

At Maui Wedding Art, I am committed to bringing joy to your special day through personalized Live Guest Portraits. Each piece I create is a unique interpretation, reflecting the essence of your event and the love that surrounds it. Below is my approach to guest feedback and satisfaction.

Who Hires My Services

Typically, I am hired by the couple, their family, or a wedding planner. My goal is to bring your vision to life while also creating an enjoyable experience for your guests. While I cherish guest interactions, your overall happiness remains my primary focus. Planning and personalization of each package, as well as the event dynamics—including aspects such as Style and Expectations, Event Time and Guest Volume, and Pricing Structure—are aligned primarily with the needs of those who hire me. Balancing each guest's experience within the overall event plan is key, as a guest that requires more time takes away that time from other guests.

Style and Expectations

Every event is unique, and so is each portrait. Before booking, you’ll see examples of my style—whether it's caricatures, portraits on canvas, watercolor sketches, or illustrations. Guests are welcome to share their preferences, but the portraits I create will always bear my artistic signature, focusing on the joy and spirit of the moment. I offer a wide range of services and techniques, each with a unique personal style and approach. Clients often find other artists online and are inspired to request my services for similar styles like watercolor, marker sketches, or caricatures. If absolutely necessary, I can adapt my technique and style to match the client’s inspiration. However, my natural style will still come through, and adapting my technique may affect the number of portraits I can complete per hour.

A common style that many artists showcase on social media involves full-body silhouettes without facial details. My approach places more emphasis on facial features, while sometimes producing lighter sketches for legs or using cropped compositions—such as half-body or torso portraits—rather than focusing on full-body depictions.

Event Time and Guest Volume

Live Guest Portraits are a joyful and interactive experience, and I aim to bring that to as many guests as possible. With larger guest counts, I may work faster, producing fun, simplified sketches so no one misses out. While working quickly, I still aim to capture each guest's unique character. I use efficient sketching techniques and focus on key facial features to maintain quality even under time constraints, ensuring each portrait is both lively and recognizable. However, it is challenging to keep track of how many drawings I can make per hour since each event is different, and the number often changes over time. Many guests enjoy interacting with me during their portraits, whether I am drawing in front of them or from photographs. I am skilled at staying focused even during conversations, but some interactions do require more of my attention, which can occasionally slow down the process.

The logistics of each venue also play a role. Venues with open-air setups can present additional challenges, such as dealing with wind or unexpected weather conditions, which may impact the drawing process. Despite these challenges, I strive to balance quality and time to fit your event's unique needs.

Pricing Structure

The packages I offer are designed to accommodate your schedule, allowing flexibility for the number of guests and the chosen portrait style. I can personalize each package, adding extra hours of live portraits and using different dynamic approaches—such as in-person versus from-picture portraits, premade caricatures, or hit-and-run caricatures. Additionally, I can include a photo booth that feeds images directly to my iPad to expedite guest portraits, or offer after-event portraits that I can mail to you. My Pricing Structure is based on the time I spend at your event, not on the number of portraits created. This ensures that you receive personalized attention without worrying about a strict portrait quota. While I strive to create as many portraits as possible, maintaining quality and personalization is always my top priority.

Feedback & Adjustments

Your satisfaction is my priority, and I value the input of both you and your guests. If a guest expresses concerns, I will listen and make minor adjustments on-site where possible. For more significant changes, I may revisit the portrait after the event at my studio. Additional work or re-creation can be discussed, with any associated delivery costs agreed upon beforehand.

Artistic Integrity and Limitations

Given the live nature of my work, there are limits to what can be adjusted during the event. For instance, during live portraits in front of each guest, significant alterations to facial features or poses, or substantial reworking if the guest requires extra personalization are challenging during live sessions. I always communicate any such limitations clearly before starting each event. Each set of portraits reflects my personal interpretation, focusing on the subject's essence and energy rather than an exact likeness.

Refunds, Rescheduling, and Compensation

In alignment with my general policy, due to the unique nature of live art, refunds are not offered; however, I am happy to explore alternative solutions. These may include rescheduling my services or creating a new artwork based on the initial deposit.

If unforeseen circumstances arise—such as wedding cancellations, changes in plans, or natural events—I offer the option to reschedule or exchange services for up to two years from the initial payment. This allows me to apply your deposit toward a new arrangement, be it another portrait session or alternate artwork.

Setting Expectations for Success

To ensure satisfaction, I encourage you to explore examples of my work and discuss your preferences before the event. Setting clear expectations ensures the final result aligns with your vision. Guests are also welcome to observe their portraits as I work, allowing minor adjustments to be made before the piece is completed.

Communication is Key

Open and respectful communication is central to my work, whether it’s clarifying expectations or addressing on-the-spot feedback. This helps ensure that you and your guests have a smooth and enjoyable experience throughout the event. If any concerns arise, I am committed to addressing them promptly and professionally, ensuring a positive and memorable experience for you and your guests.

Mahalo for allowing me to capture the beauty and joy of your special day through my art.
